My Personal Rant About How Easy it is to Become a Writer

I am not the most even-tempered of people. I know, I know, there are probably shock waves going out all over the Internet with this admission. I try, however to remain professional most of the time when dealing with other writers and buyers. For the most part I manage to do so quite nicely. This of course, results in me often resorting to the serious sport of tongue biting.

The problem with tongue biting is that, at least with me, it's only effective for so long before I'm absolutely pulling my hair out from a need to speak my piece. Since this is my blog, I'll use this forum to do so.

I value my time and my efforts as a writer. I take my work seriously and I like to think it shows. We've all had better days than others but for the most part I try to turn in work that I'm proud to have written and put a great deal of effort into the writing of it.

That being said, I find that I'm constantly amazed and dismayed to see new 'writers' cropping up nearly every day with an attitude of "I think I'll take up writing, that seems like an easy way to make money from home." It wouldn't be so bad if that weren't typically followed up with questions about showing them the way.

I'm not opposed to helping someone learn the rope. I do however take exception to the idea that this is an easy path. It is hard work, I work hard and every time I hear someone talking about how easy it is to make money writing, quickly followed by 50 more who think they can do it to, quality decreases as quickly as the prices.

I don't know if I'm being particularly moody about this tonight because I'm extremely tired, or fact that my brain is becoming seriously oxygen deprived because I haven't been able to properly breath in about a week, or maybe it's just the fact that I'm getting older, crankier, and this is my dance party and I feel like complaining...whatever has gotten into me lately, I simply want to snip the Internet connections of many of these would be 'writers' because I know it would be doing not only them, but the rest of the industry a serious favor.

Okay, I'll end my grump session and hope to be in a better mood before work begins tomorrow.
