Originality Guarantees

Have we really gotten to the point that we need to offer our clients a guarantee of originality? I guess I'm a little bothered by the fact that integrity seems so hard to come by in today's 'writers'. I thought that originality was something that should be understood by my clients when I contract to write for them. It would seem that that isn't the case. There are even some buyers who claim not to mind if you 'borrow' work from other sources. WHAT??? I was shocked to read this in a proposal. Maybe my view of the world is a bit naive. I expect to be expected to turn in quality work that is original, informative, and (hopefully to some degree) entertaining. Even more than that, I want my client to be happy with the work that I do.

Now, I know there are many writers with integrity out there. I talk to many ethical writers in the forums I frequent and am glad to be among the peers of many who have helped me begin my journey into the muddy waters of web content writing and more. I value the input of these writers that have meant so much to my career and I am saddened to see that there are so many out there who are giving all of us a bad name because of their lack of honor. And here I thought there was honor among thieves.

I guess I will have to start putting in a line about the fact that my content is original when I bid on projects from now on though it really saddens me to even feel the need.

Rant over for today. Hopefully tomorrow will bring cheerier thoughts. Or cheerio thoughts?
